Chandrababu Naidu credits UPI's digital revolution with transforming India's daily transactions

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has credited the Unified Payments Interface with fundamentally changing how Indians handle money every day, as the digital payments platform reached its tenth anniversary on Thursday.

"Speaking from my own experience, UPI has completely transformed how Andhra Pradesh and India deal with money every single day," the Chief Minister said in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's post on X.

Seamless adoption across society

Naidu said the platform had become woven into the daily routines of ordinary citizens, allowing street vendors, women entrepreneurs, small business owners and students to transact with ease. He described UPI as proof of India's rising technological capabilities and said its success had shown the country's digital strength to the world.

"Congratulations to every Indian on 10 years of UPI! A landmark initiative that showcases India's tech prowess to the world," he wrote, using the hashtag #10YearsOfUPI.

A decade of digital transformation

Over the past ten years, UPI has grown into one of the world's largest digital payment systems. The platform has reshaped how Indians transfer and receive money, from roadside vendors and neighbourhood shops to large enterprises, reducing reliance on cash and making instant digital transactions part of everyday life.

Its widespread use has also drawn small traders, self-employed workers and other segments of the population into the fast-growing digital economy.

Naidu noted that Andhra Pradesh has witnessed the same shift, with digital payments becoming routine in daily transactions across the state. By emphasising its accessibility and ease of use, the Chief Minister said UPI marked a major technological milestone and a significant advance in India's move towards a more digitally connected economy.
