Andhra Pradesh SC Commission receives 196 petitions from Dalit communities in Nellore

The Andhra Pradesh government has deployed funds across welfare and development schemes for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, but district officials must now intensify efforts to translate those allocations into measurable progress in social, political, economic, and educational domains, State SC Commission chairman K.S. Jawahar said on Thursday.

196 petitions surface during Nellore review

Speaking during a review meeting at Thikkana Pranganam in the Collectorate of SPSR Nellore district, Mr. Jawahar received 196 petitions from Dalits and leaders of SC associations. He was accompanied by SC Commission members Sripathi Babu, Mekkala Biksham, and Ramanujanamma, as well as Secretary Chinna Ramudu.

The chairman and members discussed the implementation of reservation rules, progress of atrocity cases, and instances of injustice faced by SC communities in the district. Most petitions centred on revenue disputes, though a few were complaints against the police.

Police urged to adopt humanitarian approach

Acknowledging that victims often turn to the SC Commission when justice eludes them, Mr. Jawahar instructed police to adopt a humanitarian approach and prioritise grievance resolution for impoverished Dalits. He directed officers to treat Dalits with respect and ensure their cases receive due attention.

District Collector Himanshu Shukla said the government is taking all necessary measures for SC welfare. "Special efforts are being made to ensure that SC and ST communities receive the full benefits of schemes implemented in the agriculture, education, and employment sectors," he said, adding that prompt action will be taken to resolve every issue brought to the Commission's attention.

SP Dr. Ajitha Vejendla assured that special measures will be taken to review all pending cases concerning SCs and to ensure speedy justice for victims. She pledged support to petitioners who submitted grievances and asked them to meet her personally. She directed officials at all police stations to resolve cases involving SC victims.
