The teaser for Prasanth Varma's upcoming mythological film dropped on Monday, offering the first glimpse into the actor's striking portrayal of the revered Guru of the Asuras. Several viewers took to social media to praise the transformation, with one user noting, "Akshaye Khanna doesn't need to shout to command attention, his eyes do the talking. This is going to be a performance to watch out for".

Drawing from Samudra Manthan

The teaser draws from the mythological tale of Samudra Manthan, showing how both the Devas and Asuras came together to churn the cosmic ocean, though the nectar ultimately went to the Devas. The glimpse hints at the larger conflict surrounding why the Asuras were denied their claim to Indra's throne and eventually banished to the underworld, questions explored through Khanna's Shukracharya character.

According to a video glimpse titled Shukracharya's War Cry released by the makers, the film sets the stage for a battle between dharma and adharma, led by Shukracharya. A statement from the makers describes this battle as one that could determine the fate of the world, with an ominous note stating "the end begins" to hint at the epic scale of conflict in Mahakali.

The internet's reaction has focused heavily on Khanna's ability to disappear into wildly different roles. One viewer remarked, "Akshaye Khanna can literally play anything. India's First Female-Led Superhero Film

Mahakali serves as the latest instalment in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe after Hanu-Man and is positioned as India's first female-led superhero movie, led by Bhoomi Shetty as the titular character Maha. The film, directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru, also features an impressive supporting cast including Rohit Saraf, Sriya Reddy, Khusboo Sundar, Rakesh Bedi, Samuthirakani, Rajat Kapoor, Murali Sharma, and Nassar.

The PVCU, now renamed Purana Veera Chitra Udyam, aims to transform Indian stories into visually spectacular big-screen experiences, with director Prasanth Varma's Hanu-Man serving as the universe's first film. Presented by RK Duggal and produced by Riwaz Ramesh Duggal under the RKD Studios banner, the billed multilingual spectacle is scheduled to release in theatres on January 8, 2027.
