Visakhapatnam MP urges residents to strengthen self-governance in housing colonies

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has called on residents to build robust self-governance structures in their housing colonies to tackle everyday problems without waiting for external intervention.

During visits to two residential complexes under the 'Intintiki Telugu Desam' programme, the MP held that strengthening local-level governance was essential to address day-to-day issues in residential areas.

Infrastructure complaints flagged to civic body

At the JNNURM housing complex, Mr. Sribharat enquired about residents' living conditions and problems. He said infrastructure-related issues concerning the 216 houses would be brought to the notice of the GVMC authorities for resolution.

The MP also visited the Rajiv Swagruha residential complex in Santhoshimatha Colony in the 45th Ward and interacted with residents. He explained the welfare and development programmes of the coalition government and distributed pamphlets on its initiatives.

Residents urged to form active societies

Mr. Sribharat urged residents to strengthen self-governance through their residents' society, maintain cleanliness and ensure water pipelines and drainage systems remained free of blockages. He said collective responsibility would help maintain a clean and well-managed residential environment.

The emphasis on resident-led maintenance reflects a push to decentralise basic civic upkeep in apartment complexes, where ageing infrastructure often leads to disputes over repairs and service delivery.
