Violence in Manipur: Two killed in Kamjong district, six Naga bodies recovered earlier

Two individuals were shot dead by suspected militants in Kamjong district's Kultuh Kuki village early Thursday morning. According to police, the shooting occurred around 4:55 AM, followed by several houses in the village being set ablaze. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers, and a search operation is underway to locate the perpetrators. The incident has heightened tensions in the area.

This attack comes a day after six Naga bodies were discovered in Kangpokpi district's Karam Vaifei village. It is suspected that these are the remains of six individuals abducted from Leilon Vaifei village on May 13. Their identities have not yet been confirmed by authorities. The case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further inquiry.

The six bodies were brought to the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal on Thursday morning, where a large crowd, including family members, Naga community leaders, and locals, gathered. Security forces had to use tear gas to control the crowd. Protests erupted in Senapati district, where demonstrators set fire to an office of the Naga People's Front (NPF) and targeted trucks in various locations. The United Naga Council (UNC) has called for a 24-hour shutdown in Naga-majority areas.
