Varuna Yagam and Sahasra Ghatabhishekam Enter Third Day at Srisailam

The five-day Varuna Yagam Sahitha Sahasra Ghatabhishekam, organised by the Srisailam temple management to invoke blessings for timely rainfall and prosperity, marked its third day on Sunday. The rituals, steeped in tradition, aim to ensure a lush-green State, abundant harvests, and overall well-being for its citizens.

Rituals Led by Temple Officials and Priests

On Sunday, Srisailam temple Trust Board chairman Pothugunta Ramesh Naidu, Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao, and other trustees entered the Yagasala (ritual pavilion) alongside chief priests, Vedic scholars, and temple officials. The group performed the Sankalpam, a solemn resolve seeking peace, prosperity, and protection from calamities for the country.

The prayers extended to include timely rainfall, abundant livestock, agricultural produce, and the health and longevity of people. Specific invocations were made for protection against fire, vehicular accidents, and untimely deaths, underscoring the comprehensive scope of the rituals.

Maha Ganapati Puja and Lord Chandishwara Ritual

A special Maha Ganapati Puja was conducted to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted execution of the Sahasra Ghatabhishekam and associated ceremonies. Following this, a ritual dedicated to Lord Chandishwara, the attendant deity of Lord Siva and presiding figure of the Sahasra Ghatabhishekam, took place.

Ankurarpana Ceremony Marks Sacred Beginnings

The evening saw the performance of the Ankurarpana ceremony, symbolising new beginnings. Soil was collected from a designated spot on the temple premises and placed in nine earthen vessels. Sacred grains were sown into the vessels, initiating the sprouting process. Water is poured daily into these vessels to ensure healthy growth, reflecting the ritual’s connection to agricultural prosperity.

Installation of Sacred Pots and Rudra Worship

The day concluded with the Sahasra Ghata Sthapana, the installation of 1,000 sacred pots, accompanied by Ekadasa Rudra and Rishyashringa rituals, Kalasa worship, and Rudra Parayanam. These rituals, deeply rooted in Vedic practices, are intended to amplify the spiritual energy of the Yagam and further the prayers for the welfare of all.
