Trump says he deserves 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, but doubts he’ll win

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he should win the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, while acknowledging doubt about his chances of receiving it.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce the 2026 award on Friday.

“I don’t know what their decision is going to be,” Trump said while discussing the committee’s decision.

The comments came as Trump’s record on major international conflicts remained part of the context around his claim.

The source says the US president has waged war with Iran and has yet to broker peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump questions his chances

Trump said the Nobel committee “have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.”

Since his return to the White House last year, he has repeatedly said that he deserves what may be the world’s most prestigious award.

“It is about that time,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

He also said he had been “very honoured to receive it indirectly last time by the recipient”.

Trump said that recipient had declared that “nobody in history deserves it more than President Trump.”

The Norwegian committee’s announcement will determine whether Trump receives the award he says he deserves, after he publicly expressed uncertainty about the outcome.
