Trump seeks a global terminology shift

US President Donald Trump is pushing for a rebrand of artificial intelligence and wants China, described in the source as the world’s other AI superpower, to come on board.

Trump said at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that all US government documents, and “hopefully the world’s”, will use “superintelligence”, or SI, for the fast-evolving technology.

The move places official US terminology behind Trump’s preferred label for a technology still widely known as artificial intelligence.

China has not committed to the term

A foreign ministry spokesperson did not say whether China would adopt Trump’s preferred term for artificial intelligence.

The spokesperson, however, said China respects the choice of the term.

The push comes amid many thorny issues with China, while Trump is seeking alignment on what governments call the technology.
