TGIIC confirms layout approval followed conservation guidelines near Durgam Cheruvu

The Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) clarified on Thursday that the layout approval for plots near Durgam Cheruvu was granted only after adhering to conservation guidelines, including the buffer zone of the lake and heritage rock preservation rules. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) reviewed these factors before giving its nod, the TGIIC said in an official statement.

Response to Heritage Concerns

The statement was issued in response to a report titled ‘TGIIC lists Durgam Cheruvu Heritage hillocks for auction’, which raised concerns about the plotting of survey numbers within HMDA-protected heritage rock precincts and the catchment area of Durgam Cheruvu.

Addressing these concerns, the TGIIC explained that the layout was initially auctioned in 2007-08, and its approval in 2017 was based on recommendations from the Heritage Rock Preservation Committee. Proposals for the comprehensive development of the area were later submitted to the HMDA and were approved after ensuring compliance with heritage and ecological guidelines.

Safeguards in Place

The TGIIC emphasized that specific measures have been implemented to protect preservation areas, heritage rocks, and buffer zones. Safeguards for the Durgam Cheruvu ecosystem have also been rigorously defined and followed, the statement noted.

This clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny over urban development projects in ecologically sensitive zones. By reaffirming its adherence to conservation norms, the TGIIC seeks to address public concerns about the environmental and heritage impact of its activities.
