10 Women Gain Financial Independence Through Pink Auto Project in Mysuru

Ten women in Mysuru received autorickshaws under the Pink Auto project on Saturday, marking a significant step towards financial independence. The initiative, launched by Rotary Mysore Metro in collaboration with Taliru Foundation and Automotive Axles, aims to empower women by providing them with sustainable livelihoods. The autos were distributed during an Independence Day event at Urs Gymkhana, Mysuru.

A Pathway to Self-Reliance

The Pink Auto project is designed to address systemic challenges faced by women, including poverty, domestic abuse, and lack of financial opportunities. Mohan Gurumurthy, Project Chairman of the initiative, described it as a means to achieve "true freedom" by liberating women from economic struggles and enabling them to become self-sufficient providers for their families.

The program follows a comprehensive empowerment model. Beneficiaries are selected through rigorous background checks, trained in driving, assisted in obtaining licences, and supported in vehicle ownership. Sponsoring organisations cover the initial down payment for the autos, while the remaining cost is financed through loans arranged with nationalised banks or auto-finance partners.

A Collaborative Effort

The autorickshaws were handed over to the beneficiaries by prominent members of the Rotary Clubs and representatives from Automotive Axles Pvt. Ltd., including Satish Bolar, Guru R., Asha Bhargavi, Ramaki, Vinayak, and Debdas Pandey. Chitra from Taliru Foundation emphasised that the project's core mission is to equip women with the tools and confidence needed to achieve financial independence and live with dignity.

Even 80 years after India's independence, many women continue to face economic hardships and societal challenges. This initiative represents a tangible effort to address these issues by providing women with the means to earn a stable income and escape cycles of poverty and abuse.
