Telugu Women in California Celebrate Bathukamma and Dasara Together

Women from the Telugu community gathered at Windemere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, California, as Bathukamma and Dasara celebrations brought the community together around its culture and traditions.

The Women Empowerment Telugu Association (WETA) organised the event under its banner, with the association promoting women’s empowerment and Telugu cultural heritage in the USA.

Telangana MLA from Kodad, N. Padmavathi Reddy, attended the event as chief guest.

Women made bathukammas (floral arrangements) and played around them while singing songs.

The activities also allowed them to relive their life in Telangana before they moved to the USA.

Togetherness and cultural preservation

Congress leader and NRI Jhansi Reddy said the celebrations highlighted the spirit of togetherness and the preservation of Telugu cultural traditions among the diaspora.

The programme featured Mogudzpellamz, presented by Bobby and Chandu.

The celebrations included the making of floral arrangements, songs and the featured presentation, alongside WETA’s stated focus on cultural heritage.

For the women, the bathukammas and songs were connected to memories of life in Telangana before their move to the USA.
