Telangana weaver crafts matchbox-sized saree in just 170 minutes

In a remarkable display of craftsmanship, Sircilla-based weaver Veldi Hariprasad crafted a handloom saree small enough to fit into a matchbox in just 170 minutes. The feat, performed on August 3 ahead of National Handloom Day, showcased the region’s rich textile heritage and drew admiration from local residents and the weaving community.

A Testament to Precision and Tradition

The saree, measuring 5.5 metres in length and 45 inches in width, weighs only 175 grams. Hariprasad used traditional weaving techniques to achieve this delicate creation, underscoring the precision and skill required in handloom artistry. Witnesses described the achievement as “incredible,” with many expressing hope that such efforts would bolster the preservation of Sircilla’s centuries-old weaving traditions.

Hariprasad is no stranger to innovative weaving. His past works include sarees inspired by themes such as ‘Nari Shakti’ and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ earning him widespread recognition.
