Telangana to Launch New Ration Cards with Advanced Security Features

The Telangana government is gearing up to distribute new food security (ration) cards embedded with cutting-edge security features to over three crore beneficiaries across the State. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will officially launch the initiative on August 15 in Sangareddy, aligning the rollout with Independence Day celebrations. A total of 1.04 crore cards are set to be distributed, ensuring coverage for eligible families under the food security scheme.

Enhanced security to prevent misuse

The new ration cards incorporate several advanced security measures aimed at preventing duplication and misuse. Features include holograms, hidden images, watermarked logos, invisible UV logos, and encrypted QR codes. The hologram will display the Telangana government emblem, while hidden images will reveal the words "government" and "original" when viewed from specific angles. These overlapping designs make counterfeiting significantly more challenging.

Anti-copy technology for added protection

Officials have emphasized the inclusion of relief text, or embossed raised text, which creates a tactile surface detectable by touch. Additionally, micro-printed text—readable only under magnification—provides another layer of security. This text is specifically designed to resist reproduction using standard printing techniques, ensuring the cards remain difficult to duplicate.

Technology akin to banknotes and passports

The security features embedded in the new ration cards are comparable to those used in highly secured documents such as banknotes, passports, and certificates. Micro text, for example, is particularly resistant to counterfeiting, as attempts to replicate it often result in blurring or unreadable images. These measures collectively make the cards highly resistant to tampering or unauthorized reproduction.
