Telangana's digital learning programme enrolls 9 lakh students in first year

Telangana's digital mathematics and science programme has enrolled more than nine lakh students—nearly 80% of its eligible base—in the first year since its launch in June 2025, according to an official release.

The State-wide initiative, implemented by the Department of School Education in partnership with Khan Academy, has reached close to 6,000 schools and trained nearly 20,000 teachers across government and local body institutions. The programme covers students in Grades 6-12.

Rollout across multiple school systems

The digital learning effort spans Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), Model Schools, Residential Educational Institutions Society schools, and government and local body schools. KGBVs alone recorded more than one lakh student registrations, representing nearly 84% of their student base, with science recording higher participation than mathematics.

Cascade training model

The State Council of Educational Research and Training, working with Khan Academy India, trained 200 master trainers, who in turn trained mandal resource persons and mathematics and science teachers at the mandal level. Under the agreement guidelines, the programme included weekly online mathematics and science practice.

Focus shifts to sustained engagement

For the 2026-27 academic year, the department said it plans to focus on regular student usage and engagement. District nodal officers will support implementation and conduct weekly monitoring across schools.
