Consumers seeking low-tension and high-tension electricity connections will know the service line charges payable in advance under a new uniform charging system, TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil said.

Fixed charges to replace case-by-case uncertainty

Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited said the uniform service line charging system is intended to remove uncertainty caused by case-by-case estimation of service line costs for LT and HT connections.

Mr. Patil said the system would provide consumers with clarity on the charges payable in advance, instead of leaving the service line cost to vary from one application to another.

Addressing a media conference at the TGSPDCL headquarters on Wednesday, he thanked the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission for introducing what he described as a fair and transparent system for industries, commercial establishments, households and other consumers.

He said the estimated cost of HT connections earlier depended on the location of the service, the distance over which the line had to be extended and transformer capacity.

Under the new system, fixed charges will be based on the sanctioned load, Mr. Patil said.

11-kV HT charge fixed at ₹4,078 per kVA

The Uniform Service Line Charge fixed by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission for 11-kV HT connections is ₹4,078 per kVA.

Development charges, security deposit and other applicable expenses would continue to be levied as per the prevailing rules.

The USLC system will apply to eligible HT connections supplied through a common feeder in the existing 11-kV electrified network.

It will also apply only where such connections are located within one kilometre of the existing network.

Connections that require line extensions beyond one kilometre will continue to be sanctioned on an estimate basis under the existing rules.

The new system also provides standard rates for overhead and underground networks, which TGSPDCL said would eliminate variations in estimated costs.

Earlier, the difference in estimates could be as high as 30% to 40%, Mr. Patil said.

Network works after payment of prescribed charge

Mr. Patil cited the example of a 200-kVA HT connection to explain how the new system would operate.

In such a case, TGSPDCL would undertake the necessary network expansion and feeder-related works after the consumer paid the prescribed uniform service line charge, he said.

He said the company was also making details of the power network available through GIS-based mapping.

However, final technical decisions would be taken by TGSPDCL based on load feasibility and network capacity.

Online tracking and LT consumer coverage

Online services would allow consumers to track the status of their applications, ascertain the charges payable and know the stage at which their files were pending, Mr. Patil said.

He said these online services would make the process of granting connections faster and more transparent.

Load-based uniform service line charges have also been introduced for LT consumers.

The simplified procedure would cover domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural and electric vehicle charging connections, among other categories.

The announcement was published on September 30, 2026, at 06:32 pm IST.
