Telangana Congress fails to disburse ₹2,000 crore fee reimbursement despite High Court order

The ruling Congress government in Telangana has failed to disburse even a rupee of the ₹2,000 crore fee reimbursement advance sanctioned by the State Cabinet despite a High Court directive, BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao alleged on Thursday.

Speaking at a Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protest in Karimnagar demanding immediate release of pending dues, Mr. Rao warned that the BJP would escalate its agitation unless the Revanth Reddy administration clears fee reimbursement and scholarship arrears without delay.

20 lakh students hit by delay

Nearly 20 lakh students across the state are awaiting fee reimbursement, the BJP leader said, adding that the fund crunch has left college managements unable to pay faculty salaries and disrupted the functioning of educational institutions.

Students and their families are experiencing acute financial and mental strain as they struggle to meet tuition fee obligations, Mr. Rao said.

Blame game over ₹8,000 crore backlog

The BJP State chief accused both the previous BRS government and the current Congress dispensation of negligence, claiming the former left behind nearly ₹8,000 crore in unpaid fee reimbursement dues.

He alleged the State Cabinet agreed to release ₹2,000 crore in advance only after the High Court intervened, but the government has yet to act on the decision.

"If the government continues to play with the future of students by withholding fee reimbursement and scholarship funds, we will stand with the students and continue our agitation until it relents and releases the necessary funds," Mr. Rao said during the demonstration.

BJYM State president Ganesh Kunde and other party leaders also addressed the gathering.
