Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Meets Revenue Augmentation Panel for First Discussion

Eminent economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Chairman of Tamil Nadu’s newly formed Revenue Augmentation Committee, along with other committee members, met Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai. This marks the committee’s first official interaction with the Chief Minister.

Focus on Boosting State Revenues

The committee, established to explore sustainable ways to enhance Tamil Nadu’s tax and non-tax revenues, recently convened its inaugural meeting. It has been tasked with critical responsibilities, including improving tax compliance, addressing revenue leakages, rationalising tax rates and exemptions, and identifying untapped revenue sources.

During the meeting, key members such as K.P. Krishnan, Arbind Modi, Najib Shah, and M. Suresh Babu were present. Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) M.A. Siddique also participated in the discussions.

Broader Engagements at the Secretariat

In a separate development, Chief Minister Vijay also met with industrial leaders, including Ashok P. Hinduja, Chairman of the Hinduja Group of Companies; Shom Hinduja, Head of OHM Mobility; and Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland Limited. These discussions were held at the Secretariat, though details of the agenda were not disclosed.

The Revenue Augmentation Committee’s work is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Tamil Nadu’s fiscal health by addressing inefficiencies and exploring innovative revenue streams. This meeting with the Chief Minister underscores the government’s commitment to tackling financial challenges and ensuring sustainable growth for the state.
