In a significant move to address rising electricity demand during the ongoing El Niño conditions, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has assured seamless coal supply to thermal power stations in Telangana. SCCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Buddhaprakash Jyoti directed officials to prioritize coal transportation and enhance supplies to the state’s power plants, ensuring uninterrupted power generation.

Coordination Meeting Addresses Rising Power Demand

A video conference was convened between SCCL CMD Buddhaprakash Jyoti and Telangana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (TG-Genco) CMD S. Harish, along with senior officials from both organizations, to review coal production, transportation, and power demand. Dr. Jyoti emphasized that the increased electricity demand due to El Niño necessitates close coordination to maintain adequate coal stocks at all thermal power stations in Telangana.

Special Measures to Ensure Seamless Operations

To prevent disruptions, SCCL plans to designate special officers to monitor coal transportation and resolve operational issues promptly. The company’s Marketing Department reported that 72% of SCCL’s coal production is currently allocated to TG-Genco thermal power stations, NTPC Ramagundam, and the Singareni Thermal Power Plant. However, CMD Jyoti instructed officials to prioritize Telangana’s power plants further, even if it means reallocating coal supplies initially earmarked for other states.

Monsoon Preparedness and Quality Assurance

Given the challenges posed by the monsoon season, CMD Jyoti directed SCCL General Managers to ensure uninterrupted coal production in opencast mines. He stressed that production levels must not decline under any circumstances and that quality standards must be maintained. Meanwhile, TG-Genco CMD Dr. Harish reviewed coal stock levels and urged local officials to proactively resolve transportation bottlenecks to guarantee uninterrupted coal movement.

Why This Matters

The assurance of seamless coal supply comes at a critical juncture as Telangana faces heightened power demand due to El Niño-induced weather conditions. SCCL’s commitment to prioritizing state power plants and reallocating resources underscores its role in safeguarding energy security. The coordination between SCCL and TG-Genco highlights the importance of proactive planning in addressing operational challenges during peak demand periods.
