Shamli Watchman Found Hanging From Guava Tree, Family Alleges Murder

The body of village watchman Mohkam was found hanging from a guava tree in Shamli’s Dhenena village on Monday morning. His family has alleged murder and questioned the police action in the matter.

The incident took place in the Gadhi Pukhta police station area. The body was found at around eight in the morning, hanging from a guava tree in Sanjay’s field.

Manoj, son of Kalyan and a resident of the village, was going out to relieve himself when he saw the body hanging from the tree. After going closer and identifying Mohkam, he informed the villagers and the family members.

The family then reached the spot and informed the police station. Police arrived at the location and brought the body down from the tree.

Following the incident, cries broke out among the family members. Mohkam is survived by one son, Rajat, who works in Haryana. After receiving information about his father’s death, Rajat left Haryana for the village. Mohkam also has four daughters.

The family members continued to demand police action at the spot. They alleged that Mohkam had been facing continuous pressure to reach a settlement. According to the family, the incident took place because action was not taken by the police in time.

The family has expressed suspicion that Mohkam was murdered and has demanded action in the case. However, it has not yet been established whether his death was a murder or a suicide.

The case is linked to a dispute that took place in the village on the occasion of Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti. The dispute was reportedly over the holding of the Jayanti programme and involved two groups.

During the dispute, Rahul, Rajveer and Beersain suffered serious injuries in a clash. All three were admitted to a hospital in Meerut for treatment.

In connection with that case, police had earlier arrested Madan and Kavita and sent them to jail. On Friday, police also arrested the third accused, Lal Singh, and sent him to jail.

Police action is under way to trace the other accused in the case. Meanwhile, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Mohkam’s death. The exact reason behind his death has not yet been clarified.
