S D Sanjay appointed as Bihar's new Advocate General

Patna: The Bihar government has appointed senior advocate Satya Darshi Sanjay as the new Advocate General of the state. He succeeds P K Shahi, who resigned from the constitutional post on June 14. Sanjay officially assumed charge on Thursday at the old Advocate General's office building in the Patna High Court.

Sanjay, who has been serving as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India in the Supreme Court, brings a wealth of legal experience to his new role. Born into a middle-class family, he completed his schooling at Sir Ganesh Dutt Pataliputra High School in Patna and graduated in commerce from Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Patna University. He later pursued legal studies at the Campus Law Centre of Delhi University.

After enrolling as an advocate, Sanjay trained under senior advocate Gopi Chand Bharuka, who later became a judge of the Patna High Court. Over the years, he built expertise in civil, constitutional, and criminal law, while also establishing a strong practice in corporate and contractual matters. Following the reorganisation of Bihar and Jharkhand, he represented several companies before the Jharkhand High Court and the Supreme Court.

Sanjay's appointment marks a significant moment for the state's legal framework as he takes over the responsibilities of the Advocate General, a key constitutional position.
