Police Commemoration Day was observed in Nandyal, Kurnool and Anantapur districts on Wednesday through events honouring police personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties.

Memorial parade held in Nandyal

A ‘Smriti Parade’, or memorial parade, was organised at the Nandyal district police office to honour police martyrs. District Collector Rajakumari Ganiya attended the event as the chief guest and received a ceremonial salute from police personnel.

Paying tribute to the martyrs, the Collector said the police uniform was not merely a symbol of authority. She described it as a testament to responsibility, courage, dedication and sacrifice.

Ms. Rajakumari said police personnel often stayed away from their own families while carrying out their duties. Their work, she said, enabled the public to celebrate festivals in peace.

She also underlined that the responsibilities of the police extended beyond maintaining law and order. These responsibilities included curbing drug abuse, tackling cybercrime and protecting vulnerable sections of society, she said.

Anantapur event highlights police role

In Anantapur, Range IG Shemushi and District Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh took part in the Commemoration Day event at the District Police headquarters.

Ms. Shemushi and Mr. Jagadeesh urged the police force to rededicate themselves to their duties. They asked the force to draw inspiration from the ideals of those who sacrificed their lives for the safety and protection of society.

Ms. Shemushi said the police had a pivotal role in ensuring the nation’s internal security. “It is a position of great responsibility. The police work round-the-clock to maintain law and order and ensure peace in society,” she said.

Her remarks placed the commemoration alongside the continuing duties performed by the force in maintaining public order and peace.

Tributes at Kurnool memorial

In Kurnool, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil paid tributes at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial. He paid tribute to 154 police personnel who sacrificed their lives while safeguarding law and order between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.

The events in the three districts combined memorial observances with calls for serving police personnel to uphold their responsibilities. They also highlighted the range of duties associated with policing, including internal security, law and order, tackling drug abuse and cybercrime, and protecting vulnerable sections of society.
