Over 97,000 qualify in UGC-NET across 84 subjects, three papers cancelled for errors

The National Testing Agency has declared UGC-NET results for 84 subjects, with over 97,000 candidates qualifying for PhD admissions and more than 4,000 securing eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships.

A senior NTA official confirmed the figures late Friday, adding that 6.07 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination across the 84 subjects.

Two-month wait for results

The examinations had been conducted in June, but the answer key was released only on August 16, nearly two months after candidates sat for the test. On the same day the answer key was issued, the NTA published a special notice flagging problems in three subject papers.

An expert committee identified factual, typographical, translation and language-related errors in the Sociology, Commerce and English question papers. Hours later, the agency announced that all three examinations would be held afresh in September due to the discrepancies.

Re-tests scheduled for September

The repeat examinations are set for September 9 and 10. Candidates affected by the cancellations will not be charged an additional fee to appear for the re-conducted tests.

The UGC-NET is administered by the NTA to determine eligibility of Indian nationals for assistant professor positions and for the Junior Research Fellowship in universities and colleges across India.
