NIMS Hyderabad Completes 1,000 Robotic Surgeries in Under Three Years

The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, has successfully completed 1,000 robotic-assisted surgeries in less than three years, with over 90% of these procedures performed free of charge under government healthcare schemes like Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

Advanced Technology Transforming Patient Care

Robotic-assisted surgeries, known for their precision and minimally invasive approach, have significantly improved patient outcomes. The technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through smaller incisions, reducing postoperative pain, blood loss, and hospital stays while enabling faster recovery.

The Department of Urology led the way with 590 procedures, including radical prostatectomies for prostate cancer, radical cystectomies for bladder cancer, robotic renal transplants, and uro-gynaecological and reconstructive surgeries.

The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology followed with 248 surgeries, covering hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, intestinal, and upper gastrointestinal procedures. Meanwhile, the Department of Surgical Oncology performed 162 surgeries, focusing on ovarian, uterine, colorectal, and other cancers. These included advanced organ-preservation and nerve-sparing techniques.

Leadership and Government Support

Dr. Rahul Devraj, NIMS Director and Senior Professor of Urology, praised the efforts of the institute's surgical teams, nurses, and operation theatre staff for achieving this milestone. He also expressed gratitude to Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for their support in enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services at NIMS.

This achievement underscores the institute's commitment to providing cutting-edge medical care, particularly to underprivileged patients, through government-backed initiatives.
