The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has taken a strict stand on the demarcation of Shahpura Lake in Bhopal. The tribunal has sought a report from the state government on the lake’s actual boundary and given the government three weeks to submit it.

The NGT has directed the state government to complete the demarcation of Shahpura Lake and present a report on its status within the fixed time limit. The directions were issued during a joint hearing of two separate cases filed in connection with the conservation of the lake and various issues related to it.

Shahpura Lake is among the major water sources in the capital, Bhopal. Questions related to its conservation and boundaries have been under discussion for a long time. The NGT’s direction has now put the focus on the state government’s demarcation report.

The tribunal has specifically asked the government to establish the actual boundary of the lake and submit the related report. The report is expected to clarify the lake’s real extent and the issues connected with its conservation.

The state government will now have to present the report before the NGT within three weeks. After that, during the further hearing of the cases, the tribunal will consider the next course of action on the basis of the report.

With the three-week deadline fixed, attention is now focused on the report to be submitted by the state government. The findings will be placed before the NGT in the two cases being heard jointly on the conservation and related matters of Shahpura Lake.
