The protest by IDBI Bank officers and employees against the proposed privatisation intensified as the strike continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. Bank operations remained suspended as officers and employees stopped work and took to the streets in Bhopal’s MP Nagar.
The bank employees organised a protest rally in the area and raised slogans against the proposal to privatise IDBI Bank. Through the rally, they expressed their anger over the preparations to sell the bank and demanded that the government withdraw its decision on privatisation.
Protest against privatisation
During a meeting held as part of the protest, IDBI Bank employees said that privatisation of the bank would not be accepted under any circumstances. They said handing over the bank to private hands could affect the interests of employees as well as the banking system.
The employees said the issue was not limited to their own demands. They argued that the proposed move could have an impact on the functioning of the bank and the interests of those working in it.
Because of the strike, the bank’s regular work remained affected. Officers and employees appealed to the government to stop the privatisation process and consider their demands seriously.
The protesting bank employees made it clear that their agitation would continue until their demands were fulfilled. The second consecutive day of the strike saw them continue their campaign on the streets of MP Nagar, while raising their objections to the proposed privatisation of IDBI Bank.
