Maulana Abu Talib Rahmani, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and an Islamic scholar from Kolkata, has said that the safety and dignity of every daughter is the responsibility of the entire society, regardless of her religion. He made the statement at a religious and Islahi Jalsa-e-Aam organised in Bhopal.
Addressing the gathering, Maulana Rahmani said, “A daughter is a daughter, whether she is Hindu or Muslim. The responsibility for her safety and dignity rests with the entire society.” He stressed that the protection of girls should not be viewed through the lens of caste or religion.
Maulana Rahmani also raised questions about the safety of women and expressed concern over incidents of girls going missing. He said the country’s system was proving unsuccessful in protecting daughters. According to him, the safety of girls is not an issue concerning any one religion or community. It is a collective responsibility of the entire society.
He said the issue needs to be taken seriously and that a safe environment must be created for women and girls. He also made it clear that the safety of daughters should not be divided into separate religious or community concerns.
The Maulana also spoke about the social responsibilities of the Muslim community. He said help for people in need should not remain limited to giving alms. Instead, society should create an organised system through which poor and needy people can receive assistance with dignity and become self-reliant.
He appealed to capable members of society to come forward to help people in need. He also called for a collective effort to fulfil this responsibility rather than leaving the task to a few individuals.
In his address, Maulana Rahmani said the safety of every girl should be a priority for both society and the administration. He said the issue should be considered beyond the boundaries of religion and faith.
The central themes of his address at the Jalsa-e-Aam were the protection of women, the safety of girls, social reform and the collective responsibility towards people in need.
