Dasara 2026: City police constitutes social media monitoring teams to check spread of false information
Mysuru City police has constituted 20 social media monitoring teams with 58 trained personnel to track online activity round the clock during Dasara.
The teams have been formed across different police stations in the City and at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, according to City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar.
Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Friday, Latkar said the teams had been created to monitor social media and check the spread of false information during the festival.
Teams to track rumours and false information
The monitoring teams will identify people spreading false information and rumours that could create panic among the public, the Commissioner said.
“They will identify those spreading false information and rumours that could create panic among the public and initiate legal action against them,” she said.
The police said legal action would be initiated against those identified as spreading such information.
The arrangement places social media monitoring within the police stations as well as the Commissioner’s Office, with the teams operating round the clock during Dasara.
