MCR TIMS Hyderabad to admit first patients within two days, starting non-emergency cases

The 1,082-bed MCR TIMS Sanathnagar will admit its first in-patients within two days, starting with non-emergency cases before scaling up to full operations, director A. Narendra Kumar has announced.

The newly inaugurated Marri Channa Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad is still assembling the workforce and systems needed for comprehensive clinical services.

Temporary staffing arrangements until recruitment completes

To avoid delays while permanent hiring is under way, the Telangana government has redeployed nearly 1,200 vacant posts from various government medical colleges to MCR TIMS and instructed the institute to fill them. Recruitment on a contract basis is also proceeding through the District Selection Committee chaired by the Hyderabad Collector, covering 144 medical officers and more than 80 laboratory and other technicians.

The state government has sanctioned 2,360 posts for MCR TIMS, but recruitment for these positions has not yet started. Because the institute is autonomous, appointments must be made through a separate recruitment mechanism similar to the one used by NIMS, Dr Kumar explained.

In another temporary measure, posts sanctioned for the expansion of NIMS that are not immediately required there will be used to provide personnel to MCR TIMS until the institute completes its own regular recruitment.

Pneumatic tube network to speed sample transport

Among the hospital's less visible features is a pneumatic tube system designed to move materials across departments without requiring staff to physically carry them. The system propels capsules through a network of tubes at speeds of around 20 to 33 feet per second, allowing laboratory samples, medicines and blood to reach their destination in about a minute.

The network includes around 34 stations across the hospital, with conduits and diverters routing capsules from one location to another. Each capsule can carry a maximum of 5 kg, meaning larger or heavier consignments will still require manual transport.
