Samajwadi Party preaches social justice but gives tickets to the privileged, Mayawati alleges

The Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati has alleged that the Samajwadi Party’s recent Rajya Sabha nominations expose a contradiction between its social justice claims and its choice of candidates.

Mayawati accused the SP of practising dynastic politics and favouring wealthy industrialists in a statement issued on Friday (October 2, 2026).

She said the nominations contradicted the SP’s claims of fighting for the backwards, Dalits and minority communities.

Mayawati contrasts BSP and SP nominations

“As you know very well the BSP does not give tickets to family members, capitalists, and the wealthy,” Ms. Mayawati wrote on X.

“Instead, it chooses hardworking Ambedkarites from among the poor, middle class, and weaker sections of society,” she said.

Mayawati described the BSP’s politics as “clean and free from nepotism and money power”.

She alleged that the SP “pretends to be Socialist, and a party of the so-called PDA”.

As an example, she pointed to the SP’s decision to nominate Mr. Ramgopal Yadav, whom she described as a close relative of the SP chief, for the Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

She also referred to the nomination of Mr. Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani, whom she described as a prominent businessman, as the SP’s second candidate.

Mayawati said the SP’s third candidate, “as before”, would most likely be a “face-saving measure and a losing candidate”.

Attack on the SP’s PDA politics

She alleged that this reflected the “true nature of the SP”.

According to Mayawati, the SP needs the PDA to vote but primarily elects its own family members and capitalists as MPs and MLAs.

She therefore said it would be wise for the public not to be misled by the SP’s PDA rhetoric.

Mayawati warned the backward classes, Dalits, tribals and minorities to remain aware of what she called the SP’s double standards.

She described the SP’s social justice plank as an illusion.

“The poor amongst the upper castes, the Bahujan Samaj, Muslims, and other religious minority communities should be aware that their interests are safe only with the Ambedkarite BSP,” Ms. Mayawati added.
