She Delivers Food in Mumbai by Day and Studies for the UP Police Exam by Night; Khushboo's Story is Inspiring Many
Mumbai, often seen as a city of dreams, has become a stepping stone for 23-year-old Khushboo from Uttar Pradesh, who is charting a unique path for her future. Unlike many who come to Mumbai seeking a permanent life, Khushboo’s goal lies far beyond the city’s bustling streets. By day, she works as a Swiggy delivery partner, delivering food across the city. By night, she dedicates herself to studying for the Uttar Pradesh Police examination, aiming to return to her hometown of Ghazipur in a police uniform.
Khushboo’s story gained widespread attention after a video featuring her was shared online by Swiggy Food Marketplace CEO Rohit Kapoor. In the video, she speaks about her journey from Ghazipur to Mumbai, her decision to move independently, and her determination to achieve financial independence while pursuing her dream. Her clarity of purpose and relentless hustle have struck a chord with many viewers.
Unlike many who leave their villages in search of a new life, Khushboo’s ambition is to return home and serve her community as a police officer. She revealed that she moved to Mumbai without informing her parents, choosing to support herself financially as she worked toward her long-term goal. Coming from a family of five siblings, her decision reflects both courage and commitment.
Her story was featured in Kapoor’s “Chai Biskoot” series, which highlights the lives and aspirations of delivery partners across India. Sharing her journey, Kapoor wrote, “Indian villages have spent decades watching people leave. Khushboo left too. Came to Mumbai from Ghazipur at 23. Delivers food. Studies for the UP Police exam at night. But here's the part that stayed with me. Most people come to Mumbai hoping they never have to go back. Khushboo came so that she could. In a police uniform. For the people in her village. The courage to leave is common. The clarity to know why - that's the rare thing.”
The post sparked conversations online, with many praising Khushboo’s determination and focus. One user commented, “Watching someone navigate the brutal gig economy while holding onto a massive, noble vision for their future is incredibly humbling to witness.” Another wrote, “Khushboo's journey hits different; leaving home is tough, but leaving with the clarity to return and serve is rare. Respect for that kind of purpose.” However, some also raised questions about whether platforms like Swiggy are taking active steps to support their delivery partners, such as providing resources for exam preparation or other empowerment initiatives.
Khushboo’s story serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination many individuals bring to their daily struggles, striving to turn their dreams into reality.
