Kavitha accuses Telangana Congress government of neglecting farmers amid irrigation shortage
K. Kavitha accused the Telangana Congress government of neglecting farmers and sought irrigation, power supply and a statewide crop damage assessment.
K. Kavitha has urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take immediate steps to protect farmers after visiting fields withered crops at Maqdumpur village near Karimnagar. She attributed the damage to a lack of irrigation water and alleged that no government official had visited the village to assess the crop damage.
Kavitha links crop damage to irrigation shortage
Speaking to the media after the visit on Monday (October 19, 2026), the Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president accused the persons at the helm in the Congress dispensation of playing politics over the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), instead of addressing farmers’ irrigation needs.
She said the responsibility to help farmers should not depend on the status of the project. “Regardless whether the Kaleshwaram project has failed or passed, is it not the government’s responsibility to help farmers?” she said.
Kavitha said constructing a small cofferdam across the Pranahita river could stabilise irrigation across 35 lakh to 40 lakh acres. She urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to act immediately to protect farmers’ interests.
Kavitha also demanded a 24-hour power supply for agriculture, the lifting of water for irrigation and a statewide assessment of crop damage. The demands placed irrigation availability and an assessment of crop losses at the centre of her criticism of the government’s handling of farmers’ concerns.
