In Jaipur, vehicles with pending traffic challans are now being identified using AI-powered cameras at Rambagh junction. The system, operational for the past four days, displays the vehicle numbers on a large LED screen within 12 seconds of detection. Traffic police then stop the vehicle, inform the driver about the pending challans, and advise them to pay. If the challans remain unpaid, the vehicle may be seized upon its next detection.
This initiative, called the 'Smart Vehicle Challan Detection System,' has been launched by Rajasthan Police in collaboration with Eva Bharat, Crashfree Media, and Cars24. A control room has been set up at Ajmeri Gate to monitor the process. The system also identifies vehicles lacking valid pollution, insurance, or fitness certificates, displaying their numbers on the LED screen.
During a six-hour reality check by Dainik Bhaskar, several cases were observed. For instance, a Hyundai Exter car was flagged for an expired pollution certificate, while a Mercedes was found with eight pending challans. In another instance, a Honda City had 14 pending challans, and the driver was informed accordingly. Vehicles with no pending challans are also acknowledged, with drivers being thanked for adhering to traffic rules.
Traffic police officials have reported that over 100 vehicles with pending challans are being identified daily. The system also alerts authorities about stolen vehicles.
