Indian Railways Eyes Unified RRB Portal to Streamline Recruitment Process
The Ministry of Railways is exploring the development of a unified portal to integrate all Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) platforms, aiming to enhance efficiency and coordination in the recruitment process nationwide. A senior Railway Board official confirmed the proposal is currently under discussion.
"Yes, the launch of a unified RRB portal is under discussion. It is being considered to ensure better coordination," the official stated.
Currently, the recruitment process for various posts in Indian Railways is managed by 21 RRBs, each responsible for specific regions. These boards are staffed by a Chairman, a Member Secretary, an Assistant Secretary, and supporting non-gazetted personnel. The 21 RRBs are located in Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Prayagraj, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Bilaspur, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jammu, Kolkata, Malda, Mumbai, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Siliguri, and Trivandrum.
Last week, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conducted a high-level review meeting on the RRB recruitment process. He emphasized the need for a more transparent, technology-driven system and advocated for the broader adoption of Computer-Based Tests (CBT) and tablet-based examinations to expedite recruitment and make the process more user-friendly. The minister also directed RRBs to enhance communication with candidates and stakeholders while ensuring continuous improvement in recruitment practices through technology and accountability.
In the fiscal year 2025-26, Indian Railways recruited 43,781 candidates across six major categories, filling 47,084 vacancies. These included 18,799 positions for Assistant Loco Pilots, 14,298 for Technicians, 452 for Sub-Inspectors, 4,208 for Constables, 7,951 for Junior Engineers (JE)/DMS/CMA, and 1,376 for Paramedical roles.
The proposed unified portal, if implemented, is expected to further streamline these processes, ensuring a more efficient and coordinated approach to railway recruitment across the country.
