Elon Musk’s SpaceX has announced plans to acquire Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered coding assistant Cursor, in a landmark deal valued at $60 billion. This acquisition has turned the spotlight on Aman Sanger, one of the co-founders of Anysphere and a rising figure in the artificial intelligence industry. Sanger’s father, Arvind Sanger, is an alumnus of IIT Bombay and the founder of the investment firm Geosphere Capital, while his mother, Shilpa Sanger, is an orthodontist, entrepreneur, and angel investor. Sanger’s interest in programming began during his teenage years, eventually leading him to study computer science at MIT, where he met his future co-founders.

Before launching Anysphere, Sanger gained valuable experience through internships at major organisations, including Google and Bridgewater Associates. Reports indicate that he was involved in AI-related projects even before founding the company. Anysphere was established in 2022 with the goal of creating practical AI tools.

Initially, the team focused on computer-aided design products but later pivoted to software engineering tools after identifying a larger market opportunity.
