Hyderabad opens new construction waste station to curb illegal dumping

A new transfer station for construction and demolition waste opened at Gowlidoddi in Serilingampally Zone on Monday, creating a closer collection point for debris generated across Narsingi, Nallagandla, Gachibowli and Madhapur.

Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan inaugurated the facility in the presence of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner G. Srijana and other senior officials. Re Sustainability has established the station, which will work alongside the existing C&D waste processing facility at Jeedimetla.

Curbing illegal dumping

The station is expected to reduce indiscriminate dumping of construction debris on roads, drains and open spaces by serving as an aggregation point for waste from western Hyderabad's major construction zones. By shortening transportation distances, CMC anticipates faster debris lifting, improved vehicle utilisation and lower transportation costs.

The facility is designed to strengthen the collection, transportation, processing and recycling chain for C&D waste in Cyberabad. It will also enable greater recovery and reuse of construction material, potentially reducing dependence on virgin materials.

Treating debris as resource

"C&D waste should be treated as a resource rather than merely as waste. Agencies undertaking CC road and other civil works have been advised to ensure that debris generated during construction is collected and handed over to authorised processing agencies," Mr. Ranjan said. He directed that the cost of collection, transportation and processing of C&D waste be incorporated into project and work estimates in accordance with applicable government procedures.

The authorised service provider will offer doorstep collection and processing of C&D waste, with user charges applicable as per prescribed norms.
