Andhra Pradesh Delegation Studies Advanced Waste Management in Malaysia

A high-level delegation from Andhra Pradesh, led by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister P. Narayana, visited Selangor, Malaysia, to study advanced waste management systems and sustainable urban practices. The aim of the visit was to explore the potential adoption of these practices in Amaravati and other urban centres in the State.

During the two-day visit, which concluded on Thursday, the delegation examined Selangor's institutional framework for solid waste management. This included scientific waste processing, public cleansing, resource recovery, and waste-to-energy initiatives. The visit is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's efforts to benchmark urban development practices against successful international models.

The team included MA&UD Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar and Vivekanand Thangamuthu Selvaraj, First Secretary for Commerce and Education at the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur. They held discussions with Selangor parliamentarian Ganabatirau and State EXCO Minister Papparaidu. Officials from KDEB Waste Management Sdn. Bhd., Selangor's nodal waste management agency, provided a detailed briefing on technology-enabled waste collection, transportation, monitoring systems, and community participation.

The delegation also visited field facilities and is scheduled to inspect specialised centres for treating bio-medical, industrial, and poultry waste, as well as the waste-to-energy facility at Jeram Sanitary Landfill. Minister Narayana emphasized that the Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to building clean, sustainable, and globally competitive cities.

The State intends to evaluate the applicability of Malaysia's best practices to enhance municipal solid waste management, landfill remediation, and waste-to-energy projects in Andhra Pradesh.
