Hong Kong Investment Chief Reveals 8-to-1 Capital Attraction at Bali Forum
HKIC CEO Clara Chan reveals that every dollar invested attracts over eight dollars in international capital, highlighting effective partnerships.
Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKIC) CEO Clara Chan Ka-chai has revealed that for every dollar invested by the government-owned entity, it attracts over eight dollars in international capital, underscoring the effectiveness of its partnership-driven approach. Chan made the statement during a panel discussion at the inaugural Nusa Dua Forum in Bali on Friday, organised by the South China Morning Post and Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara.
Collaboration Fuels Success
Speaking alongside Blue Pool Capital CEO Oliver Weisberg, Chan emphasised the importance of collaboration between sovereign wealth funds and private capital to achieve high returns. “For every dollar we invest, we bring in more than eight from international patient capital such as sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and universities,” she said. Her remarks highlighted HKIC’s strategy of leveraging partnerships to amplify investment outcomes.
The forum, attended by 120 participants including officials, institutional investors, and family office leaders, aimed to position Bali as a burgeoning global financial hub.
Record-Breaking Performance
HKIC’s results further validate its strategic approach. Last week, the corporation announced an investment income of HK$6.46 billion (US$824 million) for 2025, marking a staggering 175 per cent year-on-year increase. It also achieved a 14 per cent net internal rate of return, showcasing its ability to generate significant profits despite global economic uncertainties.
Why It Matters
Chan’s insights at the forum underline the critical role of sovereign wealth funds in driving economic growth and attracting international capital. By fostering partnerships with patient capital sources like pension funds and universities, HKIC has positioned itself as a model for other investment entities seeking to maximise returns.
With Bali aiming to establish itself as a global financial centre, the forum served as a platform to exchange ideas and strategies that could shape the future of international investment.
