Hong Kong Electronics Fairs to Showcase More Than 120 Robots

More than 120 robots, including humanoid machines designed for factory work and elderly care, will be showcased at two major Hong Kong electronics fairs as mainland Chinese manufacturers seek to expand the commercial applications of artificial intelligence and tap overseas markets.

Fairs to bring together more than 3,200 exhibitors

The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and electronicAsia will open on Tuesday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.

The four-day events will bring together more than 3,200 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions, giving the robot displays a setting that spans both electronics manufacturing and international business.

The exhibits will include humanoid machines aimed at factory work and elderly care, reflecting the range of commercial uses manufacturers are seeking for AI-powered technology.

The push is also linked to efforts by mainland Chinese manufacturers to take these applications into overseas markets.

Leo Yang, Asia-Pacific director of mainland Chinese firm Booster Robotics, said the company was developing affordable robots capable of competing with leading American manufacturers.

Yang acknowledged that American manufacturers had an edge in technology.

Speaking at a media preview on Monday, he said, “China and the US are the top two in this industry.”

His comments placed affordability, technological competition and overseas expansion at the centre of the robot-related showcase at the Hong Kong fairs.
