Hong Kong DSE Results: 24 Students Achieve Top Scores This Year

Secondary Six students across Hong Kong collected their Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) results on Wednesday, marking a significant moment for university hopefuls. This year, 24 students from 15 schools achieved the coveted title of top scorers, with 11 earning the distinction of "super top scorers" by excelling in the extended mathematics module alongside six core subjects.

A Competitive Year for DSE Candidates

The DSE, which serves as Hong Kong's university entrance examination, saw 56,853 candidates this year—a 5% increase from 2022. Of these, 46,106 were school candidates, while 10,747 were private candidates. The exams grade most subjects on a seven-level scale, with Level 5 reserved for the top 10% of candidates.

Biology, chemistry, and economics were among the most popular elective subjects, reflecting students' focus on science and commerce streams.

Spotlight on Top Performers

This year's top scorers include 14 male and 10 female students who achieved perfect scores of 5 in six subjects, along with an "attained" result in citizenship and social development. The 11 "super top scorers" went a step further, securing 5 in the extended mathematics module.

St. Paul’s Co-educational College led the tally with four top scorers, followed by Queen’s College with three. Other schools represented in the top ranks include Ying Wa Girls’ School, Wah Yan College Hong Kong, and Diocesan Girls’ School, among others.
