Nearly Blind Student Aiden Cheng Among Hong Kong's Top DSE Scorers

Several students who excelled in Hong Kong’s Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exams this year have turned personal struggles into motivation for ambitious careers in law and medicine. Among them is Aiden Cheng, a student with only 10% of his vision remaining, who plans to become a legal advocate for vulnerable communities.

Record-Breaking Results Across the City

On Wednesday, Secondary Six students across Hong Kong received their DSE results. Of the 24 top scorers, 20 aim to pursue careers in medicine, many inspired by personal or observed experiences with illness. Nine of these students have set their sights on the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), while three have applied to the University of Hong Kong (HKU). The remaining eight are still weighing their options.

Other top scorers are branching out into diverse fields. Two students plan to enroll in HKU’s double-degree programme in business and law, while another will pursue a double-degree in government and law. One standout achiever is heading to Oxford University to study computer science.

Schools Celebrate Milestones

This year’s results also marked significant achievements for several schools. St Paul’s Co-educational College led the rankings with an unprecedented five top scorers. Meanwhile, Po Leung Kuk Laws Foundation College in Tseung Kwan O, HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary and Primary School in Sha Tin, and Shatin Tsung Tsin Secondary School celebrated their first-ever top scorers.
