Four members of an inter-state thief gang were arrested at Mirzapur railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Friday in a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). The suspects, identified as Surendra Rajput, Johnny, Mukesh Kumar, and another Surendra, all residents of Haryana’s Rohtak district, were apprehended from platform number 2 while traveling on the Rajgir Janata Express (train number 13202).

During the search, police recovered several stolen items, including multiple mobile phones, two gold rings, three silver anklets, and ₹4,900 in cash. Acting on a tip-off, authorities surrounded the AC coach B-2 of the train and detained the suspects. Investigations revealed that the accused are part of the notorious "Sansi gang," which operates in organized groups of 7-8 members to target passengers across various trains.

According to the GRP, the gang members would first engage passengers in friendly conversations to gain their trust. They would then offer assistance with luggage, using the opportunity to discreetly unzip bags and steal valuables such as cash, jewelry, and electronics. To avoid immediate detection, the gang would zip the bags back up after the theft, leaving passengers unaware of the crime for hours.

GRP Deputy Superintendent Arun Kumar Pathak confirmed the arrests and stated that initial investigations indicate the Sansi gang has a widespread network with members actively involved in thefts across trains nationwide. Police are now interrogating the suspects to gather information about other gang members and their operations.

This crackdown is expected to provide relief to passengers who have been increasingly targeted by such organized thefts on trains. Authorities have assured enhanced vigilance to curb such crimes and ensure safer travel for commuters.
