Cyberabad Police Commissioner Pushes for Enhanced CCTV Surveillance Systems

Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh has instructed officials to fast-track the geo-tagging of CCTV cameras across the commissionerate and transition to Network Video Recorder (NVR) technology to enhance surveillance and crime detection capabilities. The directive was issued during a review meeting on the Nenu Saitham initiative held at the police commissionerate headquarters on Wednesday.

Geo-Tagging and Database Integration

The Commissioner emphasized the need to geo-tag all existing CCTV cameras and immediately tag newly installed ones. These details are to be entered into a comprehensive digital database to streamline monitoring. He also called for the integration of all cameras with the police network to ensure seamless surveillance.

Dedicated Administrators at Police Stations

To maintain the functionality of surveillance systems, Mr. Ramesh directed that every police station appoint a dedicated administrator. These personnel will oversee the operation of CCTV systems, ensure cameras remain functional, and arrange prompt repairs for any malfunctioning units.

Transition to NVR Technology

Highlighting the limitations of traditional Digital Video Recorder (DVR) systems, the Commissioner ordered a phased migration to NVR-based systems. NVR technology, which uses IP cameras, offers superior image quality, real-time monitoring, and efficient video recording and storage. The upgrade is expected to expedite evidence collection and analysis during investigations. Officials were instructed to complete necessary technical approvals, infrastructure upgrades, and network connectivity to link police stations with the central control room.

Accountability and Training

Mr. Ramesh stressed that vendors responsible for installing CCTV cameras must be held accountable for their maintenance and uninterrupted operation. He also directed that officials, staff, and vendors undergo training on geo-tagging, software usage, and camera upkeep to ensure the smooth functioning of the surveillance system.

Call for Public Participation

The Commissioner urged residents, apartment associations, businesses, industries, and educational institutions to actively participate in the Nenu Saitham initiative by installing high-quality CCTV cameras and integrating them with the police network. He stated that greater public involvement, combined with advanced technology, would significantly bolster public safety across the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
