Four members of the inter-state Sansee gang, notorious for targeting passengers on trains, were arrested at Mirzapur railway station, according to the GRP. The joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) led to the arrests on platform number 2, where the suspects were apprehended aboard the Rajgir Janata Express (Train No. 13202).
The accused have been identified as Surendra Rajput, Johnny, Mukesh Kumar, and another Surendra, all hailing from Rohtak district in Haryana. During the search, authorities recovered several stolen items, including multiple mobile phones, two yellow-metal rings, three white-metal anklets, and ₹4,900 in cash.
According to GRP officials, the arrests were made following a tip-off about suspicious activity in the train’s AC coach B-2. Police said questioning indicated that the suspects were part of an organized gang that operated in groups of 7-8 members, traveling on various trains to execute thefts. Their modus operandi involved befriending passengers, gaining their trust, and then stealing valuables like cash, jewelry, and electronics under the guise of helping with luggage. They would carefully reseal bags after theft, ensuring the victims remained unaware for hours.
GRP Deputy Superintendent Arun Kumar Pathak confirmed the gang’s connection to the larger Sansee network, which is believed to have numerous members active across the country. Preliminary investigations suggest that this gang has been involved in thefts in multiple states. Authorities are now interrogating the arrested suspects to gather more information about the gang’s operations and identify other members of the criminal network.
