Four-Day Handloom Fair in Mysuru Starts August 6, Showcases Local Weavers

A four-day District-Level Handloom Fair, organised as part of the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations, is set to commence on August 6 at JSS Mysuru Urban Haat in the Hebbal Industrial Area, Mysuru. The event, sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles’ Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), will run until August 9. The fair will be inaugurated by Krishnaraja MLA T.S. Srivatsa at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

A Platform for Karnataka’s Weaving Heritage

The fair will bring together handloom cooperative societies and skilled weavers from across Karnataka, showcasing an extensive collection of authentic handwoven products. According to organisers, visitors can explore and purchase high-quality sarees, dress materials, shawls, towels, home furnishings, and other traditional textiles under one roof.

By buying directly from the weavers, attendees will not only acquire premium products but also contribute to the livelihoods of artisans and help preserve Karnataka’s rich weaving traditions. “This initiative eliminates intermediaries, ensuring fair returns for the weavers,” the organisers said in a press statement.

Cultural Programmes and Honours

To celebrate National Handloom Day, the fair will feature vibrant cultural performances every evening, showcasing Karnataka’s artistic heritage. Additionally, senior and accomplished weavers will be honoured for their contributions to the handloom sector.

The organisers have extended an invitation to families, handloom enthusiasts, and the general public to attend the fair. Entry is free, and complimentary parking facilities will be available for visitors. The event aims to encourage the purchase of genuine handloom products and foster support for local artisans.
