Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar is set to visit Mysuru on Saturday, making his first trip to the city since taking office last month. His visit coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in the city for the inauguration of the Viveka Smaraka, a memorial dedicated to Swami Vivekananda.

Prayers at Chamundi Hill

Mr. Shivakumar’s schedule begins with a visit to the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill at approximately 11:30 a.m. This customary offering of prayers will mark the start of his day in Mysuru. Following this, he will head to the Oval Grounds to receive Prime Minister Modi, whose helicopter is expected to land there.

Viveka Smaraka Inauguration

The Chief Minister will accompany the Prime Minister to the Viveka Smaraka on N.S. Road. This newly developed Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre has been built by the Ramakrishna Ashrama at the historic Niranjana Mutt premises. The site holds historical significance as it is where Swami Vivekananda stayed during his visit to Mysuru. The memorial has been constructed in his honor.

Public Meeting at Ramakrishna Vidyashala

Later in the day, Mr. Shivakumar will attend a public meeting organized by the Ramakrishna Ashrama at the Ramakrishna Vidyashala premises. The event is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. This marks a significant moment for the Chief Minister, as it is his first official engagement in Mysuru since succeeding Mr. Siddaramaiah in the top post.

Why It Matters

The visit underscores the importance of Mysuru in Karnataka’s political and cultural landscape. For Mr. Shivakumar, this trip symbolizes a new chapter in his leadership, while the joint appearance with Prime Minister Modi highlights a rare moment of collaboration between the State and Central leaderships. The inauguration of the Viveka Smaraka also adds a layer of cultural and historical significance to the day’s events.
