Doctors at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences removed a nail cutter from a 20-year-old man's stomach through endoscopy without surgery.
A 20-year-old patient at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences has returned to normal after doctors removed a nail cutter from his stomach through endoscopy. He had accidentally swallowed the object, and doctors said there was no need for surgery.
The procedure was led by Ganesh Koppad of the Gastroenterology Department, along with a team that included senior gastroenterology experiment technician Deepak Kengeri.
Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences director Vinay Dastikoppa said extracting the nail cutter from the stomach was a medically challenging task.
Patient discharged after treatment
The patient remained in the hospital for a few days before being discharged, according to the doctors.
The doctors said he is now back to normal and that the nail cutter was removed without surgical intervention.
The successful endoscopic removal is significant in the context of the hospital’s digestive-system services, which include more than 800 endoscopy procedures each year.
These procedures include ERCP and EVL, along with procedures involving dilatation of the narrowed part of the digestive tract and bulging of the blood vessels.
The hospital said these methods play an important role in diagnosing and treating various diseases related to the digestive system.
Chief Administrative Officer Reshma Talikoti, Medical Superintendent Jagdish Ganagi and others congratulated the doctors and staff involved in the procedure.
A release said the teaching hospital also treats a large number of poor people from Maharashtra and Goa.
