VCK joined alliance to secure ministerial berth, says DMDK's Premallatha

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant has accused VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan of joining the DMK-led alliance to secure a ministerial post, questioning why his party did not support the government from outside like the Communists.

Sharp rebuttal after Thirumavalavan's criticism

The statement came after a district secretaries' meeting in Chennai, where Premallatha responded to Thirumavalavan's recent comments blaming DMDK's sudden inclusion in the erstwhile DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance before the Assembly elections as one of the reasons for the alliance's loss. Speaking to the media, she said she has a lot of respect for Thirumavalavan and considers him a straightforward person.

Questions VCK's ministerial ambitions

"But the truth is that he has changed his position, and since they have a Minister, they have joined the alliance," Premallatha said. She pressed further: "Why didn't he support the government from outside like the Communists? Why couldn't he say he did not want a Ministry? You wished for a Ministerial post and joined the alliance… why are you dragging in the DMDK unnecessarily?".

Despite the sharp exchange, Premallatha clarified that the DMDK would support the DMK in the upcoming byelections.
