Deputy engineer arrested for demanding ₹10,000 bribe for quality certificates

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has recovered ₹10,000 from a deputy executive engineer who allegedly demanded the money for issuing quality control certificates linked to contract work.

Sai Ram, posted at the Quality Control Cell of the Musheerabad Division, was caught red-handed by ACB officials from City Range-1 after he accepted the bribe from a complainant. The amount was recovered from him at his instance, the bureau said.

Bribe for issued and pending certificates

According to the ACB, Sai Ram had demanded and accepted the bribe for a quality control certificate that had already been issued for one contract work and for issuing a fresh certificate for a second contract work. The agency alleged that he acted improperly and dishonestly in the discharge of his duties to obtain undue advantage.

Sai Ram was being produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.

Sub-registrar arrested in separate case

In another case, the ACB registered a criminal misconduct case against Lagisetty Venkat Swamy, Sub-Registrar Grade-II in Narayanpet district, and Kammari Nagesh, a private person and owner of Inti Bojanam Mess, in connection with an alleged bribe demand for completing a house registration.

Venkat Swamy allegedly demanded ₹90,000 from the complainant on July 18 for showing official favour in completing the house registration. He accepted ₹50,000 as part payment through Nagesh on July 21 and subsequently demanded the remaining ₹40,000, the ACB said. The agency alleged that Venkat Swamy acted improperly and dishonestly in the discharge of his official duties to obtain undue advantage for himself.

Both Venkat Swamy and Nagesh were being produced before the I Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand, with the case under investigation.

The ACB withheld the details of the complainants in both cases for security reasons. It appealed to the public to report demands for bribes by public servants on its toll-free number 1064 or through WhatsApp at 9440446106.
