Lekhpal caught accepting ₹10,000 bribe in Lalgunj anti-corruption operation

A Chakbandi Lekhpal was caught red-handed accepting an alleged bribe of ₹10,000 in the Lalgunj area as part of an ongoing anti-corruption drive, officials said. The arrest by the Vigilance/Anti Corruption Team created a stir in the tehsil premises.

The case originated after a person lodged a complaint with the concerned authorities alleging that the Lekhpal had demanded a bribe in exchange for work related to Chakbandi, or land consolidation. Taking the complaint seriously, the Vigilance/Anti Corruption Team conducted an investigation into the matter and subsequently planned a course of action to apprehend the official.

Operating under the predetermined plan, the team maintained surveillance on the accused official. As soon as the Lekhpal allegedly accepted the bribe amount of ₹10,000, the team reached the spot and caught him in the act. The bribe money was also reportedly recovered from his possession during the operation.

Following the arrest, the team took the detained Lekhpal along with them from the scene. Legal proceedings in the case are being carried out as per rules, authorities confirmed.

The action by the Vigilance/Anti Corruption Team has triggered a wave of discussions within the Revenue and Chakbandi departments in Mirzapur district. Officials have stated that action in corruption-related cases will continue to be taken as per regulations.

The operation underscores the administration's commitment to tackle corruption among government functionaries performing citizen-facing duties. The Chakbandi department handles sensitive land consolidation work that affects farmers and landowners directly.
