Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Wednesday launched the much-anticipated Thiruvonam Bumper Lottery, which now offers a record-breaking ₹30 crore as its first prize. The announcement was made during a brief ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s office, attended by senior officials from the State Lotteries Directorate. Ticket sales will commence on July 20, with the draw scheduled for September 26.

Highest Prize in Kerala Lottery History

This year’s ₹30 crore jackpot marks the highest prize ever offered by the Kerala State Lotteries, a government-run initiative. Despite the increase in the first prize from ₹25 crore to ₹30 crore, the ticket price remains unchanged at ₹500, making it an accessible opportunity for participants across the state.

Detailed Prize Structure

The Thiruvonam Bumper Lottery boasts a comprehensive prize structure, offering rewards across multiple tiers:

  • First Prize: ₹30 crore (1 winner)
  • Second Prize: ₹1 crore each (20 winners)
  • Third Prize: ₹25 lakh each (20 winners, two per series)
  • Fourth Prize: ₹5 lakh each (10 winners, one per series)
  • Fifth Prize: ₹2 lakh each (10 winners, one per series)
  • Sixth Prize: ₹5,000 each (54,000 winners)
  • Seventh Prize: ₹2,000 each (81,000 winners)
  • Eighth Prize: ₹1,000 each (1,24,000 winners)
  • Ninth Prize: ₹500 each (2,75,400 winners)
  • Consolation Prize: ₹5 lakh each (9 winners)

The total prize pool amounts to an impressive ₹125.56 crore.

Buyer Advisory and Revenue Implications

The Directorate has issued a cautionary note, urging buyers to purchase tickets only from authorised agents and vendors to avoid falling victim to scams. It reiterated that Kerala State Lottery tickets are not sold through social media platforms or digital payment links.

State Lotteries serve as a significant revenue source for the Kerala government, funding various welfare initiatives. During a recent Assembly session, CM Satheesan, who also oversees the Finance portfolio, hinted at a broader revamp of the lottery system. Proposed changes include revising the prize structure and adjusting agent commissions.

Officials Present at the Launch

Additional Chief Secretary K.R. Jyothilal and Lotteries Director Anju K.S. were also in attendance at the launch event, underscoring the administration’s commitment to enhancing the transparency and appeal of the state lottery system.

With ticket sales set to begin soon, the Thiruvonam Bumper Lottery promises to capture the imagination of Kerala’s residents, offering not just life-changing prizes but also contributing to the state’s developmental goals.
